Frequently Asked Questions
What are Sea-Legs?
Sea-Legs are the world’s only portable hydraulic pontoon lift.
The product consists of two heavy-duty hydraulically operated lift
modules that lift a pontoon boat to a height of up to six feet from
the bottom of a lake or river bed.

What type of boats can have Sea-Legs?
Sea-Legs will fit on most 18 to 28 foot pontoon boats. Sea-Legs will
not work on solid-hull boats nor will they work on tri-tube pontoon
boats. (We expect to have a tri-tube version of Sea-Legs available
in 2006). Sea-Legs can be installed a new pontoon or added to a used
boat. In all cases, though, installation must take place out of water.
Can I install Sea-Legs myself?
Generally, no. In order for your Sea-Legs warranty to be in effect,
Sea-Legs must be installed by Anchor Dock & Lift.
What is the lift height?
Sea-Legs will lift a boat 6 feet, measured from the bottom of the
pontoon deck to the bottom of a body of water. In order to consistently
have your tubes out of the water, Sea-Legs work best in water of around
4 feet or less.
Where can I use Sea-Legs?
Sea-Legs can be used anywhere with water depth of six feet or less.
Sea-Legs are most commonly used to replace a conventional lift at
a standard dock, but can also be used to park at sandbars or on-water
restaurants, for visiting neighbors, shore fishing, getting gas and
more.
How long have Sea-Legs been around?
Sea-Legs were first installed commercially in 1994 and are protected
by a U.S. patent issued in 1996. There are currently more than 1000
sets of Sea-Legs in operation in the U.S. and Canada.
How are Sea-Legs powered? Do I need an extra
battery?
Sea-Legs run off standard marine-grade boat batteries. There is no
need for additional power. We recommend a battery of at least 750
cold-cranking amps.
Will Sea-Legs work on all lake bottoms?
Yes. Sea-Legs are being used on all types of lake and river bottom
surfaces. As long as your water is not too deep for Sea-Legs (over
5 feet), Sea-Legs will work well on your lake or river bottom. Your
local Authorized Sea-Legs dealer may have further information for
you, including recommendations from other boaters on your lake who
already have Sea-Legs.
How do Sea-Legs keep my boat level?
Your front and back Sea-Legs can be operated independently or in tandem.
Thus you can raise or lower the front of your boat, raise and lower
the rear or do both at once, in order to compensate for a less than
perfectly level lake bottom.
Will Sea-Legs affect my boat’s performance?
No. When fully retracted, Sea-Legs tuck to within 5 inches of your
pontoon deck’s bottom, meaning they do not drag in the water
as you drive. Sea-Legs’ total weight is about 300 pounds, evenly
distributed on the boat.
Do Sea-Legs carry a warranty?
Yes. Sea-Legs carry a two-year limited warranty. The first year covers
parts and labor, the second year parts only.
Do I need to do anything to winterize Sea-Legs?
No. We advise that you retract your Sea-Legs fully, pull your boat
off your lake or river and winterize and store it as you normally
would. There is no need to do anything extra to winterize Sea-Legs.
Where can I see Sea-Legs in action?
With more than 1000 sets of Sea-Legs on the water today, one of the
best places to see Sea-Legs may be on your local lake or river.
